Projects - Past & Present
The splash pad located at Clan Gregor Square is something the club is very proud of. It's a great spot for families to enjoy throughout the summer. There are benches if you want to sit and watch your children - and the water is cool and refreshing if you want to get into the action!
A total of $200,000 was raised through the generous donations of Bayfield and area residents and local businesses.
Located directly beside the splash pad, the building blends in nicely with its surroundings and is a wonderful convenience for everyone who visits the area. The building also contains the pumps, sanitation and filtration system for the splash pad.
This project was a joint effort between the Bayfield Optimist Club and the Bayfield Lions Club.
Mum's & Tots Library Program
This program is held every Tuesday morning from ten untll noon, September through May. Mothers with their young ones are invited to come and enjoy the interactive preschool program.
Using a weekly theme, a volunteer provides a framework for talks, crafts, songs and stories. This wonderful social event is a great way for children in the community to play and learn.
Educational toys have been provided by Rural Response for Children while the funds needed for craft supplies and learning materials have been donated by our club.
Bayfield Facility Initiative Team (BFIT)
Since 1953, the Bayfield Arena has been the hub of our community. As an important venue in the development of our youth over the years, it has also provided enjoyment for the greater community at large. On August 21, 2017 the municipality voted to remove the ice effective April 30, 2018 and to fund a feasibility study to re-purpose the building, thus leaving our village without an ice surface.
The goal of the Optimists is to ensure the community is supported with enriching programs and proper facilities that advance the well-being of our youth to help them develop their full potential. We feel the removal of the ice is not in the best interest of the community.
BFIT and the Bayfield Arena Community Partners Association (BACPA) have merged together and requested the municipality delay the removal of the ice until our local resident's wants and needs are studied and fully understood. It's imperative to know the full impact that the removal of the ice will have on the village and surround area.
Our club is proud to support this unified effort and the resulting 'SAVE OUR ICE' campaign.
